APW - Elgin, Lord Elgin, very rare lever-set Grade 351, 23J, 16S, 14K gold OF recase with "WAP" initials to rear, gold cuvette engraved "W.A. Perley From Office Employees of D.M.Co. and B.C.R.R. April 1st, 1907, Chico, Cal.," white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel arbor, raised gold jewel settings, decorative gold disk around balance jewel, striped pattern nickel damascene, s#15159025. Gross weight of assembled watch 57.9 dwt (90.0 g). A very rare watch in its lever-set version, all examples of the lever-set Grade 351 Lord Elgin that we have encountered have fallen within the 15159001 to 15159050 serial number range suggesting the possibility of a total actual production as low as 50 made. CONDITION:
Mvt: NR, fully wound, balance is gummy but can be prodded to tick with some added pressure held at crown and a twist, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, fine scratch at "23 Jewels" marking, typical micro-fine scratches elsewhere, some oxide to perimeter of larger winding wheel and to regulator index; nearly flawless dial with few negligible micro-fine scratches; fine hands, minute with some bends; case lever-set slot is not deep enough for use with present mvt and will need to be further depthed if this case is to be functional to this mvt, case shows medium wear, several notable dents to band, reduced engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows substantial wear; good glass crystal.
